PERIFORMANCE Project Showcased at Scientific Congresses and ELSI-Focused Events

ELSI symposium assistants

Despite the limited time of activity since its official launch, the PERIFORMANCE consortium has already achieved important visibility at several scientific congresses and strategic events. The project has been presented in sessions focused on Ethical, Legal and Social Implications (ELSI) in research, as well as in meetings and initiatives connected with Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan’ Mirror Groups, which focus on cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment initiatives coordination.

The event dedicated to the Ethical, Legal, and Societal Aspects in the Age of EHDS was held on 22–23 October 2025, at the convention center Bizkaia Aretoa – UPV/EHU in Bilbao, Spain, which brought together experts and professionals from ethics, law, social science, philosophy, and the arts to explore critical issues in health data, governance, and biobanking. PERIFORMANCE was introduced in the “Session 2: Citizen Participation, Transparency & Science”.

Additionally, at the event “Translating EU cancer policy into national impact is a key challenge”, held on 13 February 2026 by Sciensano, the Belgian EBCP Mirror Group plenary explored how European initiatives can benefit citizens, where PERIFORMACE was presented as one of the key EU-funded projects in driving research, data sharing, patient engagement, and prevention.

During these sessions, the consortium outlined the general objectives of PERIFORMANCE, and the pressing need it addresses to improve the impact, ethics and equity of EU Cancer Mission, ensuring that progress and solutions are consistent with societal values, fairness and public trust within the current research and healthcare landscape. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of integrating ethical, legal and social dimensions into cancer assessment frameworks and new regulations and technologies, such as the AI and the EHDS, ensuring responsible innovation and sustainable impact.

These presentations have allowed the consortium to:

  • Create awareness about the need to incorporating the ethical dimension into the research methodology and policymaking process.
  • Identify key stakeholders and relevant actors in the field.
  • Establish first contacts with potential strategic partners.
  • Map institutions and networks aligned with the project’s goals.
  • Explore collaboration opportunities at national and European levels.

This early dissemination effort strengthens the positioning of PERIFORMANCE within the broader ELSI and public health ecosystem and lays the groundwork for future partnerships and joint initiatives.

The consortium remains committed to proactive engagement with scientific, institutional and societal actors to maximize the project’s impact.
